Illustrative only. Live Pusoy tables at Okadabet run in real time.
Ask any Filipino who grew up in the province — or even in Metro Manila — and there's a very good chance they have a story about Pusoy. Maybe it was their lolo dealing the cards during fiesta, or a long Christmas Eve game that stretched past midnight. Pusoy is one of those games that doesn't need an introduction here. It's already part of who we are.
For those who need a refresher: Pusoy (also called Filipino Poker or Lucky Nine in some regions) is a comparing card game played with a standard 52-card deck. Each player receives thirteen cards and must arrange them into three separate hands — a front hand of three cards, a middle hand of five cards, and a back hand of five cards — each ranked higher than the one before it. The player with the strongest arrangement across all three hands wins.
At Okadabet, we've brought this classic to the online format without losing what makes it feel genuinely Filipino. The pacing, the social element, the thrill of your final reveal — it's all there, just accessible from your phone at any hour, with other real players and actual peso stakes on the table. Tara, maglaro na!
Quick Note: Pusoy and Pusoy Dos are two related but different games. Classic Pusoy (also called Chinese Poker) is the thirteen-card arrangement game. Pusoy Dos is the shedding-style game where the goal is to empty your hand first. Okadabet offers both — this page covers classic Pusoy primarily, with a section on Pusoy Dos below.
Everything you need to know to sit down at an Okadabet Pusoy table and play with confidence.
Classic Pusoy is played with two to four players using a standard 52-card deck with no jokers. Each player is dealt exactly thirteen cards. After seeing their hand, each player arranges those thirteen cards into three groups: a back hand of five cards (the strongest), a middle hand of five cards (must rank lower than the back), and a front hand of three cards (the weakest). Once set, hands are revealed simultaneously and compared against all other players.
Standard poker hand rankings apply for the five-card hands. Aces are high. For suits, the ranking from highest to lowest is: Spades > Hearts > Diamonds > Clubs. Suit ranking is used as a tiebreaker when two hands have identical rank combinations. In the front three-card hand, only high card, one pair, and three-of-a-kind are possible — flushes and straights don't count in the front.
Each of your three hands is compared against the corresponding hand of every other player at the table. Winning all three hands against an opponent is called a "scoop" and typically earns a bonus multiplier. If you lose all three hands to an opponent, that's a "sweep" and you pay double. The net result is tallied after all comparisons and settled from your chip stack at Okadabet.
At Okadabet's Pusoy tables, certain high-value front hands — specifically three-of-a-kind in the front — qualify for Fantasyland in the next round. In Fantasyland, you receive all thirteen cards upfront and set your hand before opponents see their cards, giving you a significant strategic advantage. It's a legitimate reward for strong play.
If your front hand ranks higher than your middle, or your middle ranks higher than your back, your hand is "fouled" and you automatically lose to all other players at the table without comparison. Avoiding fouls is the most basic skill in Pusoy — always double-check the hierarchy before you lock in your arrangement at Okadabet.
House Rules at Okadabet: Okadabet follows standard Chinese Poker rules with a 1-6 point royalty system. Royalties are bonus points awarded for exceptional hands — Royal Flush in the back, straight flush in the middle, or three-of-a-kind in the front. Royalty payouts are applied after the main round settling.
A-K-Q-J-10 all in the same suit. Extremely rare — automatic scoop and royalty bonus at Okadabet.
Five consecutive cards of the same suit. Qualifies for royalty points in the back and middle.
Four cards of the same rank. Dominant back hand — very rarely beaten at a standard table.
Three of a kind plus a pair. Very strong back hand — solid foundation for your overall arrangement.
Standard poker hand hierarchy. Applies equally to middle and back five-card hands.
If classic Pusoy is the patient, strategic game where you carefully arrange thirteen cards, Pusoy Dos is its louder, faster cousin. You'll find it at every barkada game night, and it's just as popular at Okadabet's card game tables.
In Pusoy Dos, each player is dealt thirteen cards and the goal is simple: be the first to empty your hand by playing cards in turn. The player holding the 3 of Clubs starts the round. On each turn you play a single card, a pair, a triple, or a five-card combination — and every play must beat the previous one. The 2 of Spades is the highest single card in the game, which is why it's called "Dos" — the 2 cards dominate.
Five-card hands — straight, flush, full house, four-of-a-kind, and straight flush — can be played to beat any single card or pair from the previous turn, resetting the play sequence. This is where the real strategy lives. Holding your bombs (four-of-a-kind or straight flush) for the right moment can completely swing a round at Okadabet's Pusoy Dos tables.

Pusoy is as much a game of skill as it is of luck. Getting dealt a good hand matters, but how you arrange those thirteen cards determines whether you win, break even, or pay out. Here are the principles that consistently separate strong players from average ones at Okadabet's tables.
Your back five-card hand is your most important defensive structure. Start by identifying the strongest possible combination from your thirteen cards and lock that in first. Then work backward from there to build the middle and front. Players who try to balance all three hands at once often end up with a weak back and a foul risk. Strong back hand, decent middle, competitive front — that's the target structure at Okadabet.
The front three-card hand can only be a high card, one pair, or three-of-a-kind. While three-of-a-kind in the front gives you Fantasyland access, forcing it at the cost of weakening your back or middle is usually not worth it on a regular round. A strong pair in the front combined with dominant five-card hands is often the more profitable arrangement across multiple rounds.
Pusoy is scored cumulatively, so the match management is as important as individual rounds. If you're already up two scoops against a specific opponent, you might play more conservatively to protect your lead rather than gambling on a high-risk arrangement. If you're down and need to recover quickly, pushing for scoop opportunities on strong hands makes sense. Track your net position against each opponent at the Okadabet table.
Royalty bonuses — awarded for exceptional hands like a back straight flush or a middle four-of-a-kind — can sometimes save a session even if you lose a couple of head-to-head comparisons. When you have a hand that qualifies for royalties, structure your arrangement to fully claim that bonus rather than spreading the strength thinly across all three.
In Pusoy Dos, the most common mistake is playing your strongest five-card hand too early. Bombs — four-of-a-kind or straight flush — can reset any sequence regardless of what's been played. Hold them until an opponent is about to win the round or until you can play your bomb followed by a sequence that empties your hand entirely. Playing a bomb with eight cards still in your hand usually just delays the inevitable.
